Biographical NotesDave Smith was born in 1949. He was educated at Madelene College Cambridge. A member of the Scratch Orchestra he has since played in several composer/performer ensembles, principally with John Lewis, Michael Parsons, Howard Skempton, John White, Gavin Bryars and Ben Mason, and also with the English gamelan Orchestra and Liria - specialising respectively in Javanese Classical Music and Albanian Folk music. |

Dave Smith has been a member of the Gavin Bryar's Ensemble since its inception and as well as being involved in many other professional performances as pianist, brass player, percussionist or conductor, including British premieres of music by Harold Budd, Cornelius Cardew, Philip Glass, Ladislav Kupkovic, Ornette Coleman and Christian Wolff.
